One of Broadways most acclaimed leading ladies, Tony Award-winner and five-time Tony Award-nominee, Laura Benanti, recently completed her 2016 Tony-nominated role as Amalia Balash in the hit Broadway musical, She Loves Me. Laura Benanti earned a 2008 Tony Award for her portrayal of Gypsy Rose Lee in Gypsy opposite Patti LuPone. The actress’ other Tony Award nominations were for starring roles in Swing, Into The Woods, and Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

On television, Laura Benanti can currently be seen in the role of Alura Zor-El in the CW action drama, Supergirl. She won critical acclaim for her performance as Elsa Schrader in NBC’s The Sound Of Music LIVE. Her other recurring television roles have been on ABC’s Nashville, CBS’s The Good Wife, HBO’s Nurse Jackie, and as a dead-ringer for FLOTUS, Melania Trump, on CBS’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Laura Benanti made her Broadway debut at the age of 18 as Maria in The Sound of Music opposite Richard Chamberlain. Her other Broadway roles include The Wedding Singer and Nine starring Antonio Banderas. A few of her other distinguished theater performances include the Public Theater’s production of Christopher Durang’s Why Torture is Wrong and the People Who Love Them, Perdita in The Winter’s Tale at the Williamstown Theatre Festival opposite Kate Burton, and Anne in A Little Night Music at the L.A. Opera opposite Victor Garber.

Laura Benanti completed a week-long engagement at the popular New York cabaret club, Feinstein’s/54 Below, for which The New York Times hailed her as a “supremely confident” performer whose “bright, full soprano, with its semi-operatic heft, can go almost anywhere.” In September 2013, she released her debut album, In Constant Search of the Right Kind of Attention: Live at 54 Below on Broadway Records to ecstatic reviews.

Mayo Performing Arts Center’s 18th Annual Starlight Ball

 Get set for a great night “On the Town” as Mayo Performing Arts Center holds its 18th annual Starlight Ball Gala on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 6:30 pm at the Hilton Short Hills. 

The Starlight Ball is MPAC’s largest fundraising event of the year. Morristown Medical Center will be the honored guest during this evening of elegance and entertainment reflecting a night out in Old Manhattan. The gala will feature a performance by Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti, as well as MPAC’s Teen Performing Arts Company. 

“The Starlight Ball is an opportunity for the Mayo Performing Arts Center to honor our most outstanding supporters and partners such as Morristown Medical Center, and to shine a spotlight on the breadth of our education programs,” said Allison Larena, President and CEO of MPAC. “This fundraiser brings the community together to celebrate MPAC’s vital role as one of the state’s most innovative arts institutions.” 

The Starlight Ball features an exciting array of silent auction items, dinner, and dancing to the Tom Costello Orchestra. Guests are also treated to a performance by MPAC’s Performing Arts Company, comprised of two dozen talented aspiring artists between the ages of 12-18.
