Triple-threat performing artist Laura Benanti will showcase her remarkable talent in a night of Broadway music

In her first-ever performance at BYU, Laura Benanti will take the de Jong Concert Hall stage as she brings in an evening filled with your favorite beloved Broadway musical selections.

Benanti was just 18 years old when she made her Broadway debut in 1998 as Maria Rainer in “The Sound of Music.” Since then, her career has been filled with leading roles and diverse characters. In 2014, New York Magazine wrote, “Laura Benanti scores: a fine singer and dancer as well as a skilled actress.”

Benanti has starred as Cinderella in “Into the Woods,” Amalia Balash in “She Loves Me,” a performer in “Swing” and Candela in “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”. Each of these roles have earned her Tony Award nominations, but it was her phenomenal performance as Gypsy Rose Lee in “Gypsy” that earned her the Best Featured Actress in a Musical award.

In 2013, Benanti released her debut album, “In Constant Search of the Right Kind of Attention: Live at 54 Below,” on Broadway Records and received ecstatic reviews. In a review of her album, Next Magazine said, “Gorgeous, talented and funny, Laura Benanti can do no wrong . . . Blessed with a stunning voice of exquisite tone and technique, Benanti can sing everything—and does on this sensational recording . . . Whether channeling a Broadway ingénue or strumming a ukulele, Benanti is utterly divine.”

Most recently, Benanti has received critical acclaim for her performance in Steve Martin’s hit Broadway play “Meteor Shower” alongside Amy Schumer and Keegan-Michael Key. She also currently stars as Edie in the TBS hit, “The Detour.” The show was recently renewed for a fourth season.
